  • Teen Driver Ed Course

    This package includes 30 hours of driver education for anyone under 18. You choose whether to take the course in person, on Zoom, or on your own time. However, it does not cover the 6 hours of required behind-the-wheel (BTW) training, which is also required for anyone under 18 to get their permit and driver's license.

  • Teen Behind-the-Wheel

    Extra BTW lessons for teens to brush up on skills in preparation for their road test, including parking skills or even a mock road test evaluation. Each lesson is 2 hours long

  • Parent Class

    The parent class is a 90 minute, optional and free class offered by one of our instructors. The parent class is not only a great way to get updated on the rules of the road, it also reduces the number of hours that your child is required to drive with your supervision (from 50 hours to 40).  If you already have an account with us, please log into your student portal and purchase the parent class package. Understanding the Blue & White Cards

In Minnesota, teen drivers will receive two important documents during their driver's education journey - the Blue Card and the White Card.

The Blue Card (for the Permit Test)

  • The Blue Card allows a student to take the Minnesota permit test at the DMV.

  • Students who complete the 30-hour classroom course (either through Hot Seat or another approved program) are eligible to receive it after enrolling in Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) lessons with a certified driving school.

  • If a student took the 30-hour classroom course through their high school, they can simply provide us with their completion certificate. Once enrolled in our 6-hour BTW program, Hot Seat Driving School will electronically issue their Blue Card immediately.

The White Card (for the Road Test)

  • The White Card is issued once a student completes all six hours of Behind-the-Wheel lessons.

  • This card confirms that the student has completed all state-required driver education components and is now eligible to take the road test for their Minnesota driver's license.

  • To take the road test, the student must also:

    • Be at least 16 years old

    • Have held their instruction permit for at least 6 months

    • Have completed their 50-hour supervised driving log, including 15 hours at night

Hot Seat Driving School recommends that students under 18 have at least 15 hours of supervised driving before booking their first behind-the-wheel lesson. Students should also complete another 15 hours between each lesson with a supervising driver who is 21+ with a valid license.

Remember:

Minnesota requires 50 total supervised hours (including 15 at night) before a teen is eligible for a road test at age 16. We do our best to space lessons evenly throughout those hours.
